13A - Reading Reflection No.1

1. Entrepreneur: The Wright Brothers What surprised you the most? I was most surprised about how long it took the Wright Brothers to pursue developing the airplane or the first functioning flying machine. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admire the creativity and ingenuity that the Wright Brothers possessed. Those traits led them to create the first functioning flying machine. There innovation inspired our modern day transporting machines, which is astonishing and it changed our outlook on transportation around the world forever. I also admired how the Wright Brothers managed to build this feat of aviation without having any formal training as engineers or a high school diploma. What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? The thing I least admired about my entrepreneurs was that they put away the Wright Flyer because they said it was beyond repair. I think they gave up on the Wright Flyer and that's why they claimed it unfixable. D...

12A - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Segment The general public and I, hate waiting in long lines anywhere at almost any time. Questions: What’s your first thought when you see a long line? Do you mind waiting in lengthy lines? If yes, do you feel the frustration worsen the longer you wait? If yes again, do you wish there was a way to avoid long lines? Interviews: 1. Nicole S The first thing that comes to mind when Nicole sees a long line is how can I avoid it or how can I make it shorter? She continued into her brief rant of how much she hates waiting in long lines and would pretty much rather be stuck anywhere else. She says that she gets more anxious the longer she waits in line, but the frustration remains constant throughout the whole wait. Based on her responses, there is an opportunity presented somewhere in between choosing to wait in line or avoiding it. With that being said, Nicole would greatly appreciate my potential app, “Line Cutter”. 2. Ryan Brad. The first thing Ryan told me about wa...

11A - Idea Napkin No.1

1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are? Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life? I am Eli Avshara. I have an entrepreneurial spirit with a charismatic charm that entices any individual in my direction. These skills translate to a motivated and goal oriented employee. I aspire to become a business owner or take over a business and operate it at optimal efficiency. 2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs). The service I am offering is an application that will save people years worth of time. For the most part, people have been getting used to waiting long lines because they don't have another choice. My application, Line Cutter, offers the user an option to search any store in his area and check on the current wai...

10A - Elevator Pitch No.1

Proposal Application - Line Cutter Benefit Never have to wait in long lines

9A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Opportunity  The Who : UF Students The What : Accessibility to a quiet study room in a library The Why : Never available when needed—especially when exam season starts Interviews #1: Ryan B Ryan said every time he goes to the library when he needs to study for an exam. He either has to wait a few hours for an available room or he just leaves the library because he cannot get anything done. He said he just comes back later to study when the library clears up, but he loses hours of study time because of the lack of study rooms available. #2: Cameron B Cameron said her roommates are really obnoxious and loud every time she tries to study in her room, so she relies on the library to study, but during exam time, she only finds it difficult to find a study room in any of the libraries. #3: Michael L Michael said he agrees that this is an issue, so he only uses the library when it starts to clear out. The only time that the library clears out...

8A - Solving the Problem

Opportunity:  The dog park at the Standard is filthy about 95% of the time. The dog owners at the Standard do not pick up their dog's shit in the dog park and it builds up over time and smells like a landfill. There are pooper scoopers and complimentary poop bags available near the trash can for every Standard resident, yet there is still dog poop scattered all over the grass in the park. As a resident of the Standard, I expect the dog park to remain clean, so my dog can use it and then after he's done, his shit will get picked up and thrown into the trashcan by me, owner of said dog. Solution: A dog park lifeguard/poop-guard The Standard will hire a few people to watch over the dog park 24/7 in shifts. These individuals watching/protecting the dog park will ensure every resident picks up their dog's shit or the owner will be fined by the Standard. There is currently only a fine if your pet defecates in the hallways of the building, but I am suggesting we also in...

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Opportunities **(If the websites are needed, I have them)** Economic Trends #1 - Interest Rates are rising Where : I found an article online about U.S. Economic Trends and their impact on society as a whole. This article gives some foresight toward our financial futures. What : The federal reserve wants to raise their interest rate to 2% because the economy is expanding. Who : Anyone who has any type of loan, mortgage, appliances or anything else that adds interest Exploitation Difficulty : This is a very easy opportunity to exploit because the federal reserve is increasing the interest rate and as long as they don’t see the economy going into recession it will keep increasing. Why : I saw this as a potential opportunity because when interest rates go up, prices go up and people have to pay more for products or services they used to pay less for. This type of opportunity always poses an issue because no one wants to pay more than they’re used to paying. #2 ...

7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Opportunity : Apple is intentionally slowing down their older iPhone’s processing speeds, so their consumers/customers have to upgrade to their next product. The who : Apple Inc. The what : They are intentionally slowing down their older iPhones processing speeds The why : So consumers have to upgrade to their next iPhone Hypothesis Testing the Who: I believe there are others that have the same problem/need. I would say it is safe to assume that most iPhone users with outdated iPhones experience some variance of processing speed issues. Testing the What: Are all iPhones slow or just the older versions? Is apple bad or do all companies do this and just haven’t been caught? Testing the Why: Why do you still have an older iPhone if this is an issue? Why do you still stay with Apple? Interviews: #1 - Michael P. Michael is an owner of the iPhone 6 Plus. He has had the phone for two years now and said it was perfectly fine during the first y...
