Bug List

Bug List

  1. iPhone phone speed
    1. Apple is intentionally slowing down their older iPhone’s processing speeds, so their consumers have to upgrade to their next product.
  2. The Publix on Griffin near my house has no cashiers in the morning
    1. At the Publix near my house back home, I drive to buy some eggs, milk, and water, but find myself waiting in a 30-minute line because there is only one cashier available.
  3. The slow traffic on University drive in Davie
    1. On my route to school, every day for 4 yrs, the traffic on University has been awful. There was always traffic in the morning. The traffic situation still hasn’t improved.
  4. Having to wait for the elevator next to my room
    1. Every morning, at the elevator next to my room, I wait for 15 minutes while the elevator dings on every floor above me before it gets to me. Be aware, I have an 8:30 and somehow the elevator is still busy at that time.
  5. The speed limit on any highways/state road in Florida. They’re too low
    1. This is frustrating because there are some people that drive 60 mph the entire way from Miami to Gainesville. I want there to be another separate express lane with a higher speed limit that is available to everyone.
  6. The dog park at the Standard is filthy about 95% of the time
    1. The dog owners at the Standard don’t pick up their dog’s shit in the dog park and it builds up over time and smells like garbage. There are pooper scoopers and complimentary poop bags near the trash can available for every Standard resident, yet there is still dog poop all over the grass in the park.
  7. The Standard is constantly trashed by drunk college students returning from mid or downtown
    1. If I pay to live in this building, I expect the management to keep the place clean and enforce their rules about cleanliness around the building. Management at the Standard has improved, but I still find trash scattered around the Standard, so they still have room to improve.
  8. Long line at bars/clubs at mid and downtown
    1. I hate waiting long lines. They are tedious and time-consuming. I’d rather there be more bars or bars that can occupy a larger number of people instead of having to wait in the 30-60 minute lines.
  9. Package Concierge system at the Standard doesn’t work properly
    1. I have yet to understand this system. I set up my account and created my pin, but when I go downstairs and try to get my package, the package concierge system refuses to let me access my package.
  10. Lack of phone reception - dead spots on campus
    1. There is an innumerable amount of dead spots on campus and I find myself wandering around campus looking for reception on my phone.
  11. Wifi on campus when it doesn't want to configure - simpler wifi setup
    1. The wifi on my devices continues to be on and off. I had consistent wifi on campus during my freshman year, but now I can’t seem to get a consistent wifi connection on any of my devices.
  12. Dog feces and pee smell on carpet/wood in my apartment - get rid of it?
    1. My dog is potty trained for the most part, but sometimes he can’t hold it in any longer and he’ll go on the carpet or the wood. The smell of his feces or piss is horrible. Even after I clean the area, the smell resides and sits there for hours at a time and sometimes days.
  13. The battery life on every device I own eventually wears out
    1. This is annoying because it means I have to get a new battery or phone each time my battery wears out.
  14. The wait time at Shands and North Florida Regional Hospital is dangerously long
    1. My fraternity brother had split his chin and I drove him to North Florida Regional Medical Center. We were stuck waiting for 8 hours. After the 8 hours, he got his chin stitched up.
  15. Garbage cans on campus
    1. The trash cans are spread too far apart from each other on campus and I’ve seen that lead to more littering around campus. This is annoying because I’d like to walk through a clean campus without seeing or walking through garbage scattered on the floor.
  16. Lack of Parking in Gainesville
    1. There is no absolutely no parking in Gainesville. This is one of the most frustrating cities on the planet to park when there’s an event on campus. There’s pretty much no parking until there’s a holiday weekend on campus or it’s Summer A.
  17. Lack of Kosher food in Gainesville
    1. I keep kosher and I find it incredibly hard to maintain a normal eating schedule because of the lack of restaurants or kosher supermarkets to find kosher food.
  18. Roommates staying clean
    1. My roommates are quite messy. The room is only clean if I let my dog in the living room because I clean the room before he goes in, so he doesn’t eat anything off the floor.
  19. Loud neighbors
    1. My neighbors upstairs blast music at the most obnoxious times and that prevents me from sleeping some nights.
  20. The Standard and Southwest rec gyms are almost always full
    1. I would like to go exercise, but the gym is always full when I want to go, so I end staying home.

    Part 3:
I found it difficult to write this list after the 12th bug. It was difficult because there are a lot of bugs that I had disregarded over time. At this point, I am used to them, so they're not running through my mind constantly as bugs, but they still are bugs.

  1. Hey Eli, your 20 bugs are very relatable. i think you nailed it when it came to thinking of bugs that happen in someones every day life. It is so frustrating that we can not control these things sometimes! i did not have as hard of a time finding 20 bugs, i just thought of minor inconveniences that bother me when i do my day to day routine.

  2. Eli, you created a great list of bugs and very specific at that. I agree it was a bit difficult to come up with these bugs and I genuinely think it is because over the years, as young adults, we have matured and the little annoyances of the past have not been as prevalent as they once were. However, there were definitely some things for me that were definitely nameable for me as I see they were for you. Well done!
