16A - What's Your Secret Sauce

1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.
What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.

1. Intelligence/Knowledgeable
I am a knowledgeable person with useful information about most things I am involved in.

2. Analysis Skills
Primarily in my writing and my evaluation of business structures, my analysis skills are proficient
in finding errors in structure and finding flaws in the workplace.

3. Good at any Physical Labor (warehouse jobs)
I have been working in a warehouse since I was 4. The warehouse is owned by my father. I have
experience organizing, unloading, reshelving, creating invoices, and pretty much every aspect of
running a warehouse.

4. Charismatic Leader/Organizer
I have the charisma and organizational skills to lead and attract followers. Verbal or face to face
communication is where my strengths lie.

5. Persistence
I have a very persistent personality. If I start something like a game, test, or task, then I
feel obligated to finish whatever it is I started.

2) Interview the five people who know you the best. Ask them what they think makes
you different -- remember, focus on your knowledge, skills, abilities, emotions --
in other words, your human capital. Try to stay away from discussing your other types
of capital (such as who you know). Record each interview. In your post, please post
each interview, as well as a two-three sentence summary of each interview, explaining
what your key takeaways are. There is no time limit on these recordings. As long
as you cover the information asked for above, that's all you need to do.

Interviews:
#1 - David S
In my interview with David, he told me the first thing that makes me different in terms of human
capital is my charismatic personality. He says I have the ability to attract and lead people in
almost every situation. The second trait he said that sticks out the most is my persistence and
determination. He said once I start anything, whether it be my homework or a game, I do not stop
playing or working until I finish.

#2 - Joe P
In my interview with Joe, he told me the first trait that makes me different is my level of sensitivity
toward other people. He said I consider their perspective before I make assumptions about them.
He said I tend to get a bit intense or passionate when I speak or do something that is relatively important to me. The next trait he mentioned was that I was strong-willed and educated because I prioritize my work over everything, maintain good grades, and he thinks I am relatively knowledgeable.

#3 - Sean I
In my interview with Sean, he told me the trait that stands out the most is my driven personality.
He says I approach every task like a mission and I actively try to finish it with high efficiency. The
next trait he pointed out was my level of dedication toward anything or anyone. He was specific
with his example of my dog. He said it takes serious dedication to raise a puppy on your own in
college while doing classwork and other extracurricular activities. He also mentioned how
well-trained my dog was because of the amount of time I dedicated to training his commands and
potty training.

#4 - Michael L
In my interview with Michael, the first trait he pointed out was my initial kindness with people I
meet. He said when he first met me, his first impression was "what a nice guy". This along with
my general friendliness/neutrality in general conversations make him view me as a kind person.
He also mentioned how I was stern about my rules. The rules consisted of basic daily tasks like
maintaining the living room, maintaining our personal rooms, and lastly maintaining our bathroom.
I like to keep the apartment clean, but I want the individuals responsible for the mess to clean it. It
is very simple and yet people still can't adhere to these basic rules; thus, I have to be stern with
them in order to get them to clean.

#5 - Ryan B
In my interview with Ryan, he said the first thing he noticed about me was that I was a hard
and dedicated worker. He saw doing my homework for a 6 hour period and was astonished
because he usually takes breaks in between. He said my level of efficiency during those 6 hours
is crazy because I progressively go faster as I continuously slave along doing work. The final and
easiest trait he pointed out was my obsessive-compulsive behavior for cleaning and organizing my
room or anything that belongs to me. He said sometimes he will watch me organize my roommate's
kitchen cabinets when I get really bored.

3) Reflect on the differences. How do you see yourself, and how do others see you?
Are there differences in how you assess yourself compared to others? What do you think
causes these differences? Do you think your interviewees are correct about you? Finally,
going back to your list from part 1, would you make any corrections to the list? How?
I see myself as a future entrepreneur with the aspiration to recreate a business.
I have the determination and willpower to achieve basically anything I put my mind to,
but I really have to commit my time to it.
Others say I have a hardworking personality when I need to finish whatever
work or task I have to do. They also mentioned my obsessive-compulsion with cleaning which
keeps and ensures that everything and everyone around me are organized to an extent.

I think some of the traits I listed were similar to the ones described by my peers and I think my
evaluation of my traits is relatively accurate to the ones mentioned by my peers. I think my
interviewees are relatively accurate because they can see the traits I exhibit publically because
they watch them constantly. I would add more traits to my list. I would not change anything else
about it.

  1. Hey Eli, i think the fact that you have worked in a warehouse since you were 4 is a big part of why you have the characteristics your friends and family say you have, such as being a hard worker, dedicated, and being friendly. i too am very anal about my area and things being organized and clean, and all of my family and friends actually make fun of me for it, so i am surprised they didn't say anything about it in my interviews.

  2. Hey Eli! I really like how your 5 things about you are so descriptive, and I can tell that you really thought about what you were writing down about yourself. Obviously your interviewees think that you are a very hard-working person as well as yourself, which is a true testament to how you are. Since you want to become an entrepreneur, this is an essential trait to have. Great job on this assignment!
